Magical Healing Juice
People often ask me what I take when I get a sore throat or the start of a cold.
I don’t like to run to the pharmacy because well its expensive and time consuming, but mostly its because I like to create in the kitchen and because I’m well aware of the healing power of food.
So I prefer to create my own concoctions. Almost like a witch in the kitchen, sleeves rolled up and bending over the cauldron.
Here’s one of my magical food spells that I often use for curing a sore throat.
I am happy to say I tend to fight off colds pretty well these days due to having healed my gut and protecting it daily with good bacteria, avoiding toxic food and consuming a plethora of healing foods. But there are the odd occasions that I am not invincible (shock, horror) and I do get sucker punched by the beginnings of a cold.
Yesterday was one of those days. I was unusually tired and then that night, the sore throat hit. Scratchy, sore and hard to swallow. We all know those symptoms.
And that is where this beautiful turmeric spicy throat healing elixir comes in to play.
The use of turmeric dates back nearly 4000 years to the Vedic culture in India. It’s a wonderful spice with almost magical healing benefits.
Curcumin is the principal active ingredient in turmeric which is an antioxidant, anti-bacterial with anti-inflammatory and anti-tumour behaviour. It has been known to inhibit cancer cells from proliferating, has anti-fungal properties inhibiting adhesion of Candida to cells and is beneficial for conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high cholesterol, Alzheimer’s, diabetes and arthritis.
It is also a wonderful, natural liver detoxifier that is often used in Chinese medicine for treatment of depression and weight management.
And… if all of that wasn’t enough, it is also great for improving your digestion. All that from one spice!
Buying the fresh root is the best way to ensure you are going to maximise the benefits of the healing properties, however if you can’t find it in your supermarket, simply buy a nice organic powder which will last you a long time.
Needless to say, one glass of this and I was back on top of the world, ready to pass on the healing recipe to you guys! Enjoy. xx

- 2 Large Carrots, washed

- 2. In a high powdered masticating juicer, simply juice all of your veggies
- 3. Pour into a glass and drink!
- Drinking the juice as close to juicing as possible aids healing.
*If you are making for the kids, perhaps add an extra large orange to make it a bit sweeter for them to drink.
